Neil Dusheiko Architects

Architecture for listed buildings, period homes and sensitive London sites

Listed Building Architects London

A listed or heritage home requires an architectural response shaped by care and close attention to what already exists. Older buildings can be adapted with intelligence and imagination, but the qualities that make them special need to be read carefully before anything is changed. Neil Dusheiko Architects is a London-based residential architecture studio focused exclusively on houses. We work with homeowners who want to transform period properties, conservation area homes and historically significant buildings into thoughtful, light-filled places for contemporary life. Our role is to help you understand what is possible, read the building’s character carefully and shape a design that respects its past while making the home more generous, personal and joyful to live in.

Architects for listed buildings and period properties

Working with an older home is often a question of ambition held in balance with restraint. Change is usually possible. The more important question is how the house should change, and what must be understood before that change begins. We look carefully at the building’s original character, later alterations, setting, materials, light and relationship with the garden. From there, we develop ideas that feel rooted in the house rather than imposed upon it.
01 sensitive reworking of internal layouts
02 contemporary extensions to period homes
03 whole-home refurbishments and transformations
04 careful repair, renewal and material upgrades
05 improved daylight, flow and connection to the garden
06 architectural support for planning, listed building and conservation area considerations
07 interior architecture that feels crafted, warm and enduring

For homeowners, the value of this approach is confidence. A characterful home can become more open, calm and liveable without losing the texture, atmosphere and memory that give it its soul.

Residential Architecture - London

Planning and heritage experience
for complex residential projects

Listed buildings and homes in conservation areas can involve additional layers of planning sensitivity. Alterations need to respond to the building’s setting and the expectations of the local authority.

Neil Dusheiko Architects brings design creativity together with planning experience. Our team has experience gaining planning permission on sensitive and complex sites, working with listed buildings and creating remarkable homes in conservation areas. For projects centred on the complete reworking of a home, see our house renovation architects in London

We approach this work through careful research, clear design thinking and a calm, collaborative process. The aim is not simply to secure permission for change, but to make a persuasive architectural case for why the change belongs.

Heritage and Conservation

Respecting historic character while transforming daily life

Many period homes were not designed for the way families live today. Rooms can feel dark, disconnected or overly formal. Kitchens may be separated from gardens. Circulation can feel awkward. Later additions might overshadow the original character of the house.

Our work explores how to bring light, connection and practicality into these buildings. We are interested in the quiet details of daily life: where morning light enters, how the kitchen relates to the garden, where family life gathers, how materials feel to the touch, and how old and new elements can sit together with honesty.

A successful heritage renovation should not feel like a compromise between past and present. At its best, it reveals the character of the original home while allowing a new chapter to unfold.

Working with homeowners

Every project begins with listening. Before we draw, we want to understand the house, the site, and the life you hope to build within it.

With a listed or period property, the early stages carry particular weight. We look carefully at the existing fabric, the planning context, the movement of light, the possibilities for spatial improvement, and the parts of the building that should be protected, repaired or brought back into focus.

Our process is collaborative, thoughtful and clear. We help you explore options, test ideas and understand the consequences of each decision before the design is fixed. Where a project involves listed building consent, planning permission or conservation area considerations, we shape the design narrative with care, so the proposal can be understood in relation to the building’s character, history and future life.

We are best suited to homeowners planning substantial residential projects: whole-home transformations, design-led refurbishments, carefully considered extensions and long-term homes where architecture is central to the outcome.
