A few years ago I was fortunate to get a chance to renovate my home in Stoke Newington after living there for almost 10 years. To be honest it was a challenge balancing running a busy practise, my wife pregnant with our second child and a very tight budget but somehow we managed.

We knew exactly what we wanted. A house that drew on our roots as a family. My wife is part Swedish and I grew up in South Africa so our project draws on Scandi influences we loved, while recalling holidays on the coast in Cape Town. The house is extremely informal and very sociable.

Spaces overlap, bringing us together and even when the weather is poor, my kids remark that they feel like they're on holiday in the house sometimes.

The garden designed by @janebrockbank is the star though. We use it all year round! In fact we are braaing (a South African term for cooking over a fire) through winter. Why not?

Great article by Hugh Graham in the Times today about our Lowered House Project.

This project is a complete transformation of a charming terrace house in London for our dear friends Louise and Sam, the award-winning editors behind some of your favorite documentaries at Scoot Media !

This project was a labour of love, connecting the upper floors of their beautiful home with a newly acquired basement flat. The highlight? A stunning spiral staircase that seamlessly links an informal lounge, a modern kitchen, and a bright skylight dining room. The dramatic double-volume space is pretty awesome!

We’ve repurposed the former kitchen into a state-of-the-art edit suite, complete with a south-facing balcony that offers a serene spot for creative inspiration.

One of the challenges of design is getting the balance of natural light and artificial light right. We want lighting to tell a story about the spaces character but also ensure that the focal point of the rooms are supported by light, either natural and artificial. We also want there to be a flow, in the time when natural light fades and gives the artificial light a chance to glow and shine. Continuing the story as time passes...

We’re working on several new build houses on sensitive sites around the UK. Some are on open Green Belt sites, others on complicated urban infill site like this one in Haringey.

Here we are building a modern, eco-friendly home nestled in a lush garden. Designed to look like a garden pavilion, this project celebrates sustainability and blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.

We've had our concept design signed off by the client and the local authority has given us some good guidance on how to approach the planning submission, so it's time to get the documentation together for the application.

Tilde House is a remodelled and extended Grade II

Tilde House is a remodelled and extended Grade II listed Victorian house in the Canonbury Conservation Area. Neil Dusheiko Architects has subtly blended historic and contemporary elements, achieving an architectural transformation while safeguarding the property’s essence and heritage.

This model tells the story of a modern extension sensitively inserted against the backdrop of the original Georgian House. The basket weave brickwork ties into the landscape creating a rhythmic pattern on the walls and floors. It's about the tactile quality you can feel as well as see.

Following on from our post on models we’re looki

Following on from our post on models we’re looking a bit closer at our recently completed House of the Elements and another beautiful model made by Luka.

There’s a lot to unpack in this beautiful handmade object that tells the story of a snapshot of the space frozen in time. The model extends into the garden space which was designed by Sheila Jack to complement the house and also includes the Elements of fire and water.

The model shows the dynamic voids we were creating, free of extraneous detail. It also highlights the material choices between new polished plaster surfaces, existing brick facades and timber elements. Key to the ethos of this project was the interplay of a three story sculpture made by artist Soda and the living green wall installed by Biotecture.

The model also shows how perforated the existing house became to allow multiple views across the spaces and to increase air flow and light ingress.

Just as the house is a tangible object in the city, the model is a tangible object we can hold in our hands. Unlike its real counterpart the experience of the object is immediate, it strips away the experience of spaces unfolding in time or through the seasons to allow us to make a visceral assessment of its opportunities in real time.

The possibilities of architecture sit at this junction, allowing us to calmly absorb it’s future potential and also stimulate further discussions on how one can in habitat space going forward.

It’s a fun process and one people find engaging and transparent.

Handmade models serve as an essential design tool for our architectural practice. They offer precise and tactile representations while remaining conceptual enough to facilitate open dialogue with our clients. These models enable us to explore and communicate the spatial and material possibilities of each project, fostering a collaborative and innovative design process that all our clients love, as it is an inclusive and engaging process for us both.

These models serve as a bridge between the abstract and the concrete, providing a medium through which we can discuss and refine ideas collaboratively. Our skilled model maker, Luka Rocyn, brings a level of craftsmanship and creativity that enhances our ability to visualize and communicate complex concepts effectively. Crafted by Luka, each model reflects our dedication to exploring space and concepts in a tangible way.

We are thrilled to unveil our latest project:
The Lowered House.

This project is a complete transformation of a charming terrace house in London for our dear friends Louise and Sam, the award-winning editors behind some of your favorite documentaries at Scoot Media !

📽️🏆

This project was a labour of love, connecting the upper floors of their beautiful home with a newly acquired basement flat. The highlight? A stunning spiral staircase that seamlessly links an informal lounge, a modern kitchen, and a bright skylight dining room. The dramatic double-volume space is pretty awesome!

We’ve repurposed the former kitchen into a state-of-the-art edit suite, complete with a south-facing balcony that offers a serene spot for creative inspiration.

We will be posting a few more images of this project over the next few weeks.

Really excited to be starting this project on site on Monday. We’re extending a beautiful Georgian house and refurbishing a coach house in the Little Shelford conservation area, Cambridge.

Nestled next to All Saints Church, our design maximises stunning church views and incorporates sensitive timber details inspired by church architecture. We’re reusing materials and matching new elements to the historic charm of the property. The single-storey coach house extension enhances the existing structure, keeping its original proportions and character. Granite setts will be used to blend indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly. Stay tuned for more updates!

Here we are building a modern, eco-friendly home nestled in a lush garden. Designed to look like a garden pavilion, this project celebrates sustainability and blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
