*Vabaduse Square - Rakvere, Estonia
Prize winning competition entry for a new public square in Rakvere, Estonia. The existing Vabaduse Square has been isolated by the surroundings roads and has recently served as a rather large traffic island with no pedestrian access. The existing buildings surrounding the current square also lack coherence and do not provide sufficient continuity of street frontage. In line with the future aspirations for this area, the proposal aims to create a new square of more urban character and to re-introduce some of the spatial qualities the original designs for the Vabaduse Square had already envisaged.
