*Studio For Two Artists - London, UK
An interior refurbishment to create a studio for a painter and a photographer in Clapham, London. The project works within the confines of an existing shell forming part of a live/ work complex. The design had to accommodate separate models of production and exhibition of works for the two artists.
The complexity of the various split levels of the existing structure is negotiated by a prefabricated plywood stair made by specialist firm Facit using a process of CNC milling to allow for an efficient and economic method of using materials. The raw and highly textured staircase forms a counterpoint against the blank neutrality of the exhibition spaces. The material richness of the plywood transforms using a staircase into a more sensuous experience.
